Obesity Rates In Children

The school bell has sounded for the final time this year. Children are at home. You have some ideas to keep children fit, but it is difficult compete with cartoons, MySpace, and Nintendo. Obesity rates among children are reaching epidemic proportions, due in large part to a generation sedentary children. So how can you keep your kids out this summer? You do not need a lot of money, time, or advance planning to add the ability in the summer activities for their children. Here are some ideas for some of summer fitness for children of all ages:
- Family Hiking – Schedule a family walk around the neighborhood after dinner. Ask your local parks and recreation services on hiking trails in your area. If the weather does not cooperate, try to take a stroll through the local mall.
- Vacation Days – Try a vacation day on the beach with boogie boards to boot. Or try a local theme park. All walk walk walk in short.
- Kids Camps – As for your YMCA or Boys & Girls Club to find out what sports camps are available this summer.
- Neighborhood Games – Invite the neighborhood kids an old fashion game of hide and seek, kick the can, or taco.
- Buy the Basics – If the expensive exercise equipment is not in your budget, just buy a few jump ropes and balls for your children to use.
- Family Challenges – Set some of the challenges of the family for the summer. Take track the progress of each family member in a chart. Who can do more push-ups during a segment of TV commercials? Who can complete 100 jumps without stopping?
- Crazy Adventures – Older children may enjoy the skate park or rock indoor climbing gyms. With the proper safety equipment in place, these activities are a good way to keep older kids from becoming couch potatoes.
- Give Example – What are you doing to set an example for your child? Does your child see you participating in recreational sports, fitness classes, training with weights, biking or walking outdoors?
School is out for the summer. But that does not mean that children are resigned to three months the couch. Objective of a form of exercise for the family every day. His children, and you will enjoy the health benefits for the coming years.
