Deb Silveria Ph.D. began working with teenagers at a runaway shelter, after obtaining her Masters degree in psychology from California State University at Los Angeles in 1979. She did not know it at the time, but her life long passion and career in trauma had begun. She learned that many of the youth had run away from home due to physical or sexual abuse. Sexual abuse was unheard of at the time. She then began working with foster care agencies as a social worker with children and adolescents who were removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect.

She became the Clinical Director of the group home/foster care agency after obtaining her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Southern California. Dr. Silveria then took a position as the Director of the Adolescent Unit at Community Psychiatric Center (CPC), Santa Ana Hospital. After the hospital closed due to downsizing she became the Department head of the Outpatient Adult unit at CPC Alhambra Hospital. She has maintained a part-time private practice since 1993, when she obtained her license as a marriage and family therapist (MFT). She obtained her license as a psychologist in 1996, after which, she continued to pursue her passion in work with adolescents, children, and trauma.

In 1994 she and her family lost their home and possessions in the Northridge, California earthquake. After suffering trauma symptoms as a result of the natural disaster, she trained in EMDR (Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and in CISM (Critical Incident Stress Management). She then began contracting with Employee Assistance Programs (EAPS) providing CISM, and grief counseling to banks, private businesses, schools, and city organizations needing healing and recovery from employee injury, suicide or death, downsizing or traumatic incidents. She continues to work with adolescents in the Fullerton Union School District, providing group and individual psycho-education on drug and alcohol diversion, gang diversion, trauma recovery, and teen pregnancy.

Currently Dr. Silveria teaches at SCUPS (Southern California University for Professional Studies) an Internet University, where she teaches research methods and group psychotherapy. She is also a mentor for doctoral students working on their dissertation. She consults and teaches workshops for continuing education on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), child abuse and group psychotherapy. She continues to provide workshops on various topics for corporate clients and EAP'S on stress management, anger management and trauma preparedness.

In the past Dr. Silveria has written grants for schools and non-profit organizations. She has lectured at professional conferences and for various schools and service organizations. She has also provided psychological evaluations for educational, neuropsychological and general psychological requests. She has supervised psychological assistants and marriage and family therapy interns. Dr. Silveria is passionate about children and adolescents and trauma recovery. She has a dyslexic child and she is an advocate for parents and children to obtain the appropriate educational environment for learning disabled children. She enjoys all outdoor sports related to the ocean, and the mountains, especially scuba diving (she is an inactive NAUI instructor) and snow skiing, and she lives in Huntington Beach, California, with her family.
