This is still recommended diet and exercise for maximum results. There phentermine which is a medication prescribed to obese people who in practice suppresses appetite. This is prescription only and is an amphetamine (which can be addictive). The only thing that can alter your metabolism is synthroid, which is for people with hypothyroidsim, I'm guessing they have not. If there were a magic pill take, then everyone would be thin and more than 60% of Americans are overweight.
