Trying to lose weight without understanding the concept of body fat that puts at a disadvantage. You might have heard the term "body fat" once in several books on diet, television, or fitness gurus. Understanding of this important measure of health is a key step toward mastery of your weight so you can look and feel your best.

If you've ever asked, "What makes your average body fat percentage, but you're at a loss for the answer, here are five that you should know:

1. Its fat body is a better indicator of health than other methods such as body mass index

If you are weight conscious, you have probably considered a number of different ways of measuring their health from the perspective of weight. One popular method is the body mass index or BMI. While BMI is an excellent guide to much of the population as a unit of measurement, unfortunately has some major flaws. For example, if you are a particularly muscular with very little body fat, BMI may indicate that you are overweight or obese, when in fact you are perfectly healthy. Similarly, people who have very low body mass index might think that are healthy when in fact they have too much fat in your body.

A better way to measure their health status is to measure your body fat percentage. As the term indicates, this is simply a measure of the percentage of its weight consists of fat. This is a much more precise and say in determining their health in terms of its composition body.

2. A high percentage of body fat can put you at risk for many serious diseases

Be too high in body fat may have a number of important consequences for their health. A high percentage of body fat can help you to have a higher risk of heart disease, pressure high blood pressure, cholesterol problems, stroke and type II diabetes. 4. Healthy range for men is 19.8% for ages 20-39

For men, the healthy range of body fat is 19.8% for those between the ages of 20 and 39. Men who are older may have still be healthy, but with a range from a slightly higher body fat. Specifically: for men 40-59 is acceptable 11-21% range, while for men from 1960 to 1979 the healthy range is 13-24%.

5. Healthy range for women is 21-32% for ages 20-39

If you are a woman of 20-39 years, the range 21-32% is healthy. Meanwhile, women who are older (as is the case of men), have a healthy range of 23-33% (for ages 40-59). The healthy range for women 60-79 is 24-35%.
